Explanation

Imagine yourself being dead. You can see and hear everything happening around you but you cannot interact. You can't speak and you can't communicate. In order to to anything, you need to absorb energy from any source you can to be able to knock over a glass or flicker lights. Most times, these presences do not want to scare you. They simply are trying to communicate. They want you to acknowledge them.

It has been proven using conventional science that when our bodies experience trauma, we release energy. Because energy cannot be created nor destroyed, only changed from one form to another, we as investigators search for that energy.

There are different types of ghosts that can hold different forms. Generally, the amount of energy the entity can absorb will determine its form. For example, an entity with more energy may appear as an apparition, whereas the least energy and also the default stage may appear as an orb.

Poltergeist- This is a phenomena, not a ghost. Typically it happens centering around a pre-pubescent girl who, through no fault of her own, builds up and releases psychic energy through some kind of stressful trigger. This is why sometimes one may confuse vases knocking over, doors closing, and even taps on walls as a ghost, when really, it is the girl.

Apparition- Appears in human form in some way. To be considered an apparition, it need not have a full human body. They can also appear as simply a torso, a head, or legs by themselves.

Ectoplasm- Often confused for smoke or steam. It can try to form shapes, but is generally a free floating mist.

Orbs- Balls of light with the least amount of energy. One orb does not necessarily indicate one presence. In the same way, twenty orbs may not indicate twenty presences, either. Both can be vindicitive of only one, but not always.

Demons- Fallen angels and followers of Lucifer from the Old Testament of the Bible. These entities were never human. That means that despite popular theory, Adolph Hitler cannot return as a demon because he was human at one time. As a general rule, we as paranormal investigators try not to involve ourselves with this type of infestation because as humans, we lack the necessary preparation, tools, and holiness to control such a presence. Only trained religous clergy, namely the Catholic Church, should be called upon to assist in this type.

Residual- This is and is not a ghost. It is a "haunting" but one that does not interact with anybody or anything. Sometimes called "dumb ghost," these entities are the remnant energy signatures of a person or event that replay themselves constantly until their available energy has been exhausted. Many popular residual hauntings occur on battlefields (Gettysburg) or on scene of a traumatic event (fire, murder, vehicle accident, etc).

Crisis Apparition- Appear to people, generally family members, to warn of an upcoming traumatic event or to convey a message. People have reported seeing them in dreams, but they can also appear in other non-tradiational ways.
